Evaluation - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Here is the equipment i used in my project:
Programs that i have learnt to use through my project:
After Effects CS5 - I used this editing software when i was doing my special effects, such as the window smashing effect. I have learnt the basics in this software, such as masking, keylight, key frames. But i have also learned some more complex special effects that i can do such as in my project i have created a very nice looking window smash.
Final Cut Pro - I used this editing software to put my final product together, it was relatively easy to use and effective. I have learned how to edit shots together in this program and also how t manipulate audio sounds.
Imovie - This program was used to convert the films from my camera to a format that was compatible with Apple. I learned how to import film from a camera to a Apple compatible format.
Motion - I used this program to create my production company logo. Although i have only learned the basics of this program it was enough to create the stylish and professional looking logo that i used in my movie.
Garage Band - This was the program i used to create my backing track for my film, as i could not find any suitable backing music on the program called soundtrack. I learnt how to create a piece on Garage Band and use the musical instruments on it to create a piece of music that would fit with my film.
Compressor - I learnt how to compress files to a small enough size to be easily uploaded to YouTube.
Websites that i have learned to use:
Video Copilot (http://www.videocopilot.net/) - I used this website because it has tutorials on how to use After Effects to create some very complex special effects and titles.
You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/) - I used this website to upload my film and embed them on my blog. This taught me how You Tube works and also how to embed videos.
Blogger (http://www.blogger.com) - This website is the website that i made my blog in. I have learnt exactly how to create and manage a blog.
Google (http://www.google.com) - I used google to search up websites that i could download SFX from, all my car sounds are ones that i have found on site searched from google.
Panasonic HDC-SD60, this is the camera i used to do all my filming. It is HD and very simple to use. |
My Apple Mac, i used this to edit my film using programs that i will discuss bellow. |
Sony Tri-pod, i used this to keep my camera steady while filming. Using a tripod removes shakiness that occurs while a camera man holds the camera. |

Evaluation - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Oh my ... I went back and watched my preliminary task again, I'm almost embarrassed about how rubbish it is compared to my final film. It is clear i have come along way since i filmed the preliminary. My match on action in my preliminary task was very obvious. In my final film i feel that my match on action is more sutle as it is less in your face. Bellow are screen grabs of my to match on actions to compare:
My Final project:
In my final product i do not show the use of the 180 degree rule, i think this is a weakness of my film and if i was to do this task again i would defiantly try and do some shots to show the rule. I think there is none in my real product due to lack of organisation on the day of filming. Overall i am very pleased as my real product looks a lot better than my preliminary task, i believe this is down to my editing, because in my preliminary task i think my editing looks very clumsy and well ... amateurish. Were as the editing in my film i believe looks more professional with the way it cuts from shot to shot, i believe cutting the shots up with titles helped :).
The thing i am most pleased about is my title of the film because my title of the preliminary task is awful as i just used final cut pro. But for my actual film i used a program called motion and designed a stylish looking title. I think the difference is clear to see ....
Evaluation - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My film is similar to the 1972 film named the Godfather. The Godfather was distributed by Paramount Pictures, and so this distributor is the one that Dealing With Dealers would be distributed. A film like mine would have to be produced at Hollywood because if the amount of special effects that need to be used in my film, like gun shots, explosions ect. The money for my film would have to come from private company's who would be looking for a take in the profits. My film could also be filmed on IMAX to try and bring more people into the Cinema to see it, rather than streaming it illegally online.
My titles are in order of that of any film, because i was trying to make it look as much like a real film as possible. The jobs that are in my titles i have the director, sound and lighting, and the writer's and also my main actor. I chose to only put my main actor in the opening titles because he is the character that my opening is based around.
My production company is called explosive production's. The logo is a fire explosion effect. I went for this logo because i wanted to give the impression that the film is going to be full of action. Twisted Pictures does this with the Saw films, there logo gives the impression that the film is going to be gory.

Construction - Finaly Finished
Today i Finlay finished my 2minuets opening sequence. I created the backing track and put it on my project. I will now burn a uncencored copy of my prodject onto disk and give it to terry (the main actor) as he requested a copy of the finished piece. Once i have done that i will the censor out my swar words and then export the finished product onto this blog.

Construction - More Audio
With my monalogue audio now into my project, i thought it was complete and so lissened through it. I reaslised however it was not yet complete as there was something missing. This something was backing music. I have decided to put backing music in at this late stage because without it my films sounds "awkwad" and the sound effects seem fake. So using garrage band i am creating a backing sound track that will start of and build up tension as my film plays through, i am using ambiant noises with guitars and also drum beats.

Construction - Serious Issues!!
Today i spoke to my teacher about my audio and script, he said that the swear words were unacceptable and may effect my results, this was a big issue as i believe that the swear words are in context to the genre of film i have gone for. My teacher suggested bleeping the swear words, however this may make take the emotion out of my film. So i surges ted making two copies of my film a censored one (with bleeps) and the original copy. My teacher is going to speak with the exam board to see what i can get away with. I will then make a decision about what i will do.
Another problem i had today was that the audio was windows format and so not compatible with the apple mac, so over the weekend i need to find a way of converting the audio to a format that will be acceptible to the Apple Mac.

Construction - Audio
Today after school i went to see terry at his house, we created a script together for his monologue. I created the first draft and then he read over and made his suggestions. Finally we came up with this script:-
Terry: It was my first deal out with the boys and my heart was pumping.
With the script finished we then proceeded to record him saying his monologue using an audio recording devise which i borrowed from the school library. We recorded it a few times so i could pick the best one. I am now ready to cut it up and add it to my film in lesson tomorrow.
Terry: It was my first deal out with the boys and my heart was pumping.
The lads always joke about how a deal can turn sour in seconds - but the truth is - it just takes one cocky bastard who thinks he can do us over - and that’s it - the games up.
It becomes a fight for life – death – and ultimately - respect!
The Drive to the meet point is always long. With the crew confident however - approaching the meet I notice as the lads begin to load their guns that they would never release their finger from the safety switch.
One false move and we all could all end up dead with the money gone.
But these boys are like family to me – they’re me brothers - and if anything goes down – I will maintain their respect - I will protect them - I will kill for them.
I’ll even f****** die for them!
________________________________________________________________________________
Terry: Just like that it was all over the money gone, my crew dead lying in a pool of their own blood. Now it’s time to get them their respect - get our money back - and put a bullet in the head of that f****** c*** that has done this…
This is not about revenge this is about honour and respect! Its time to deal with the dealers! Once and for all!
With the script finished we then proceeded to record him saying his monologue using an audio recording devise which i borrowed from the school library. We recorded it a few times so i could pick the best one. I am now ready to cut it up and add it to my film in lesson tomorrow.

Construction - Footage done!
Today I have finished putting all my footage together in final cut pro, it is 2 minuets and 27 seconds long. However it has no audio so i will add all of the sound effects in the next few lessons. I will also meet up with terry to record the monologue. Our teacher has informed us that we have an extension time to finish the project, as he is going to be off for 2weeks he has decided that it would be worth our time to use this time to finalise our projects.

Construction - Audio Equipment
Yesterday our teacher was of school and so i could not continue my editing because i could not find the CD with the blood effects. So instead i began to put my clips in order on Final Cut Pro. Although i am worried the deadline is very close i think with a push i can get it complete. Today i booked out a sound recorder from the library with a deposit of £5, i will then meet up with terry on Sunday to record my monologue that will then be ready to put on my project next week.

Construction - Who stole my computer?!
Today i came back from the winter holidays, hoping to start back on my editing. However i walked into the classroom to find that my apple mac was not there. My teacher informed me that it had been borrowed over the Holiday and it was due back at 8.30am however the student did not show, so instead i found all the sound effects that i would use in my film and saved them to my pen drive. I hope to have the computer back for tomorrows lesson so i can edit again.

Construction - Editing
To day i began to edit my footage using After Efects CS5, I stabilised by footage of the car driving down the road and then used colour correction. I had a few problems stabalising because my footage was so shacky. So i had to track my footage a few times and scale up.

Construction - Converting video files
Today i imported all my footage onto the Apple Mac. I then used Toast Titanium to convert my footage into HDV (High Definition Video) .mov (Quicktime) so that it is compatible with the Apple programs I will use for editing such as Final Cut Pro, After Effects CS5 and Motion. Once the conversion is complete i will then copy all my footage onto the brain (External Hard Drive) so that there is no way I can lose my footage. I will then wipe the footage from the camera so it is ready for the next time someone uses it to film. I also signed out a video mic for this week so i can record Terry's monologue.

Example Of Release Form
Here is one of the 5 Release forms that i got each of my actors to sign, just like they would have to do if this was a real film. This form covers the director of being sued if one of the actors attempts to make a case saying they do not want to be in the film.
Construction - Filming Complete
Finaly!! :-D
On saturday the 4th of december i filmed all my footage that i would need for my project. I arrived down at the 5mile road and meet the other actors at Le Braye car park at 2.00pm. Here we relised that there was a probelm that there was alot of people around and this would not be idea for my film and also as we were using replicar guns we might have trouble if the police were called, so we drove up the roade and found a car park that was empty and very well hidden. Terry brought down his work collegues and so alltogether i had 5 Actors. One of them brought his Audi Q7 and so this is the car i used for the majority of my filming. I took a few takes with the Camera on the hourse shoe grip filming outside the car window as we drove, this gave me shacky footage however i will use after effects to correct this. Then i fillmed the rest of my footage needed. The weather conditions were far from idea for filming outside and there was waterdroplets on the lense of the camera during filming whitch is not idea, but due to the restrictions of time i have left i will have to ,ake do with what i have got. We finished filming at around 3.30 and i got the ladds to sign the release forms and thanked them for there help.
